Pablo Picasso Blue Period
Pablo Picasso born on October 25,1881
in Malagna, Spain and died on April 8, 1973 in France. Pablo Picasso
started painting when he was only 8 years old. He produced over
50,000 works of art some of which were paintings, sculptures,
ceramics, drawings, prints, tapestries and rugs. Picasso's work were
mainly categorized by periods like the Rose Period that was from 1905
to 1907, The African Influenced Period that was from 1908 to 1909 and
more. But the work period that mainly interested me and will be
talking about is the Blue Period that was from 1901 to 1904 although
this period starting point is still uncertain. In this period
Picasso's work consisted mainly on the color blue and a more
depressing look to his work. Inside his painting were mainly beggars
and prostitutes. This period in his art life was influenced mainly
because of the suicide of his friend Carlos Casagemas which explains
why his work was so depressing, sad and emotional. To understand
Pablo Picasso's work you have to know what he was going through at
the time of his friends death. Knowing that the paintings become much
easier to understand knowing how depressed and emotional he was.
A Blind Mans Meal
Was created during Picasso's blue
period in 1903 Madrid. A 2D paiting. With ripped clothes, skinny
body one can tell that this is a beggar, the way his head is tilted
to the side with his eyes closed and mouth open you can tell that
this man is depressed and in pain or suffering but still holding on
to his guitar. This painting uses light in certain parts of the
painting like the wall around the head, his arms and legs giving it a
ghostly dead like view of the man. The main colors used were
different shades of blue and brown to represent the guitar making the
painting look depressing. This painting was painted with oil on a
wood panel uses lines, shapes, and space.
Blue Nude
was one of Pablo Picasso's most famous work in his blue period and was painted in 1902. A 2D oil canvas painting of a nude woman slightly bending down holding on to her knees. Picasso was trying to express how he was feeling at the time of one of his closest friends death. Insecure, depressed, scared you name it. This painting is full of feeling and emotions with the use of the color blue.
The Old Guitarist
was Also created during Picasso's Blue
Period in Barcelona in 1903. in this painting Picasso is trying to
make visible the pain and suffering that was going on in that time
not only to him but to the general public too particularly to the
middle and lower class. A 2D oil on canvas painting. This painting
also uses different shades of blue making the painting look
depressing and sad. In the painting you see a blind man with a loath
of bread in his left hand and with his right hand he is feeling
around to drink his wine. The bread and wine make it a more religious
type where Picasso is trying to express faith and sympathy due to the death of his friend.
